Tell us about your best month ever!
At the end of my second year of business, I was absolutely and utterly emotionally and physically spent, with a full calendar of one on one client delivery and nothing left in my tank. I took four weeks off to reset and redesign my business, because I was patently aware that how I was treating myself was anything BUT sustainable. I sat and asked and asked, “How can I still be of massive service without sacrificing my own soul or sanity?” and this led me down an unexpected path in business, and bred my best month ever.
My biggest launch in my business before that was just short of $24 000. In comparison, my best month ever bred from burnout was signing $86 793 of business, and was as a result of inspiration I got when I was on that 4 week break. I was planning to run another group coaching program in addition to my health and mindset coaching program called Destination Delicious. My plan was to run a program called Love Yourself Light in the New Year as an antidote to all the BS one size fits all weight loss programs out there.
But each time I sat down to begin writing content or the sales page or whatever I felt a massive amount of resistance. I was whining about it to my husband, and he asked me a really bleeding obvious question, “Pet you are really not that into this. What do you REALLY want to help people with – what lights you up?”.
The answer to that question was I get so excited helping other women who have heart based businesses to get out of their own way in terms of BS mindset, let go of the one size fits all marketing and sales advice out there and be able to grow a healthy incomes soul fueled businesses – all without sacrificing their health, their soul or their sanity.
And so the Mind, Money, Mojo Mastermind and BS Free Business Academy were born.
Did you set a BIG goal ahead of time?
Well yes and no – I had never run this program, so I thought maybe 10 gorgeous gals was too high, turns out it was too small!
What do you think made the biggest difference this month?
Sometimes resistance in business is because you are telling yourself a whole pile of limiting beliefs and getting in your own way. But what I also know to be true is that sometimes, massive resistance is because you are trying to force yourself to do something that is not aligned to your own life purpose, or goes against your Universal game plan. I teach my clients to always trust their inner knowing.
Once I listened to my inner knowing, I designed the Mind Money Mojo 12 month Immersion Mastermind, and began building the Mind Money Mojo BS Free Business Academy. From the very beginning it felt very easy – it brought all my deepest held beliefs, and knowledge and areas of genius into one single program. I began my professional journey as a forensic and medical scientist, moved into integrative health and mind-body-soul connection and human behaviour coaching and made a natural progression into business mindset coaching with my one on one clients – so the Mindset, Money consciousness and creation and Self Care Mojo are my biggest “I could talk about this and teach about this and empower people about this forever and ever and ever” sweet spots.
Also, when I have an inspired idea now I act on it. There are a lot of ladies out there in business with a truckload of inspired ideas and zero cash flow because they are waiting to get it perfect before they bring it to market. I would have to say that one of my points of difference, which makes a huge difference to my bottom line, is that I act and implement immediately despite how afraid I may be.
So the three things that made a difference were listening to my inner knowing, implement implement implement, and allowing myself to bring EVERYTHING I am passionate about to the one program.
Were there moments of doubt? Moments where you held back?
Hell yes! I created a brand new program, a brand new product from scratch and very quickly as I was so inspired about it – so the entire process from inspiration to launching was about 4 weeks.
My biggest fears were that there would not be a demand for a program that combined mindset, practical business strategy, the woo woo end of money consciousness and radical self care all in the same package. Turns out I was dead wrong – I totally gave myself permission to create exactly what I wish I had 2 years ago when I first opened my coaching practice, gave myself permission to fail fast and fail forward (in other words look fear in the face and say, “Yep thanks lizard brain, but I’m going to do it anyway!”) and crossed my fingers and toes that there was 10 gorgeous gals out there who were seeking what I could provide in the Mind Money Mojo framework.
The demand was incredible right from the start – I had 27 applications, did 25 discovery sessions, had 15 amazing heart based business babes join me and have so far completed 13 four hour introduction strategy sessions with the Mastermind gals and that was before we even began the 12 Month Immersion. That’s one heck of a lot of hours, but the process has been so so worth it. We kicked off March 1st, after short, simple and sharp launch period and just 8 weeks after the first idea and even in the first month the ladies are taking so many step ups and breaking down their mental barriers – I am so excited about what they can all create in 12 months!
I was also worried about the HOW but I knew that if I stayed clear on the WHY the HOW would take care of itself. This takes cajones, it takes a massive amount of internal fortitude to fill a program that is designed but not actually created in terms of content delivery, membership site and all the other practical stuff. It requires you to have a massive amount of trust in yourself and your ability to make it happen no matter what. What I will say though is every time you get way outside of your comfort zone and make promises to clients there is no way you are going to break, you have more and more evidence of your own personal power and strength which means it gets way easier to do.
What fears or emotions came up for you during or after the month?
When I signed my first client for the Mastermind I was equal parts shocked and relieved. I was at the beach with my gals and I made a time to check in with a client following a discovery session the day before. I stuffed up the time conversion, and missed our schedule call time by ten minutes, and could hardly hear in the wind when she said she was so excited to join me. I got off the phone and did a cartwheel on the sand then I knew I was onto something.
I set really really clear intentions about who I knew I could help the most and I had a 1 through 10 chart that I wrote each name on as the gals signed up. I left the intentions and the list in the moonlight every night. My hubby and girls would check the list every couple of days – we carried on and did the sprinkler dance every time someone said yes. It felt very moving and humbling to put something out there that was entirely me and have people say they wanted it.
Then afterwards, after I signed up 15 in the end rather than the 10 I aimed for, I was like “Okay so I have had a huge launch, the biggest by far in my entire business over the past two years, signing a total of almost $90 000 of business in the first few weeks of the New Year which is freaking awesome for my 2014 revenue goal”…. but I have to admit I have always had a hard time stopping to celebrate, am always onto the “what’s next?” question.
I work with a mentor in Canada and we have done some mindset and tapping work around this and the deeper fear is that now if I earn money that easily it means I will have to work really really hard as a result, meaning sacrificing family and self care time which are both non-negotiable for me. So I have done a lot of work around this lately and feel like we may have cracked that open in the past couple of weeks. I have been really careful to set boundaries around my delivery of content, support and one on one sessions around the Mastermind, as I am aware I can tend to over-deliver at the sacrifice of my own energy.
The other fears that come up are the normal ones for anyone in business:
- So I have proven that I can sell my program, sign amazing ladies up and create the framework for the Mastermind, what if they don’t like the content?
- What if they don’t get the results I expect them to?
- What if they don’t feel that are receiving value?
Again, I am aware of this in my own patterns, so have been careful to open up lines of communication, set house rules and be clear on expectation for both me as the mentor and the gals as community members and participants. These include acknowledging personal responsibility, making the content less about more information and more about implementation and setting up structures like weekly accountability partners and check in sheets monthly including all activities and financials.
I see this as honouring both the participants and myself and starting how we mean to continue. I see a lot of people over deliver up front with their clients when money is on the table, and then let their interest wane long term in a program which leaves a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. I so did not want to treat these ladies like that.
How did you feel at the end of the month?
Exhausted, weary, bone tired and elated and scared – how’s that for a mix!? I always forget to factor in down time at the end of a launch period, although now that is scheduled ahead in my calendar for my 3 other launches this year – one for Mind Money Mojo is September intake and a May and November intake of Destination Delicious.
How are you going to celebrate?
HAH! This is going to sound a bit funny, but my big celebration was a new teapot. I was in Melbourne for a speaking gig, won some herbal tea from T2 (great for a herbal tea addict) and decided to head in to buy myself a tea pot. I picked a delicate eggshell blue one with two matching cups and saucers. I’m not a big shopper, don’t really collect “things” but I love the experience and ritual of brewing a pot of tea. I also really like the reminder of being so so grateful I have the chance to work from home with clients I love, sipping cups of tea. That to me is a simple sign that I am on the right track.
My larger celebration will come later in the year and it’s not just my celebration it’s my family’s as well. I could not so what I do day to day and turn up how I do for my clients without the total love and support of my husband Shane and my two girls Abby and Clio. I am really looking forward to a family holiday to Bali in September as a way of saying thank you to them as well.
Lastly – do you have any advice for entrepreneurs wanting to experience their BEST MONTH EVER?
Ask yourself what is the easiest way I can receive more abundance – the thing I can already do, right smack bang in my sweet spot, often what your clients are already asking me for.
Passively manipulate yourself by publicly setting a launch or start date (then you won’t be tempted to “wait until its perfect”), set big intentions and then work backwards for the step by step day to day stuff to implement that baby into being.
Let yourself fail fast and fail forward. Stay accountable to someone else who will call you on any mental BS and then magnetise the perfect clients to you by being clear on your offering and how they can say YES easily. Also KNOW what is in your way mindset wise – know what your default mental BS is, and have strategies or a coach or someone ready fro when the inevitable happens and you go there — if business is one hell of a self development journey, then launching is like self development on steroids!
