Lucky Bitch Video Transcript – 3 Money Taboos Nobody Talks About
For women, the topic of money itself has long been taboo. Often you might find that women (and people in general) in your life think that talking about money is kind of vulgar.
When you become more successful in business, and as you become surrounded by more entrepreneurs, you’re going to find that money talk becomes really normal for you. Which is a great thing, but there are still going to be some situations that happen in your “real life” that make you feel a bit awkward.
1. Earning More Than Other People
The first taboo is that when you start to become successful in business, you might start to earn more than other people in your life. One part of you knows that will be amazing. But the other part of you wonders how it’s going to feel.
Maybe you’ve experienced it already, or maybe you’re just starting out in your business and the fear – the unacknowledged, unconscious fear – of earning more than other people in your life is holding you back from being more successful in your business.
Let’s look at a few scenarios here. In some cultures you’re encouraged to earn more than your parents because you’re expected to look after them, so it’s an awesome thing to earn more. But in other cultures (and definitely in my culture) it can feel weird or icky to earn more than your parents. I’ve heard many women in the Lucky Bee community say that when they start to earn more than, for example, their dad, that can feel incredibly icky.
Maybe it’s someone else in your family though. Maybe you’ve got a rich relative or maybe you’ve got someone who works extremely hard and the thought of earning more than them feels kind of inappropriate. Those feelings are completely normal.
Then there’s the fear of earning more than your friends and how that would affect your relationship. This is a really powerful one to explore. How would that feel for you? What are you scared about? Are you scared that if you earn more than your friends they won’t like you anymore? Again, this is a really valid fear to work through.
It’s valuable to look at all of the worst-case scenarios of you earning more money and being more successful in your business, because it’s an important block to clear. It’s not you being negative, or you manifesting something bad happening. It’s just you clearing all that mental and emotional clutter.
I remember someone once saying to me “Well why wouldn’t I want to earn more than other people?” But for a lot of us women, it brings up feelings of unfairness and competition, and you might not be the competitive type, or it just feels yuck. It feels like it’s not a nice thing to do.
This is definitely one to work through, and I really recommend a mantra that could be:
“It’s safe for me to earn more money. It’s safe for me to earn more money than other people. It’s safe for me to be the richest person I know.”
You can find the oracle cards here, so take a look because they include some of my favourite ones that really do trigger people.
2. Feeling Isolated from Others
The second taboo that nobody talks about is the feeling of isolation that you might get as a successful entrepreneur. This may not have even happened to you yet. It could just be a fear that you’re holding onto, but it’s actually keeping you from getting to the next level of income in your business.
You might think, “Who am I going to be friends with if I’m really successful and have lots of money?” We call that a “Lucky Bitch problem” here in Lucky Bitch world. And this is the reason why I created our community around the Lucky Bitch Money Bootcamp – because we have all these women who are suddenly having very different conversations from their peers. Maybe you’ve stopped feeling good around some of your friends if they’re really negative or if they bitch about their life a lot, or if they’re just not willing to take any action.
When you’re in that space of manifesting something amazing, whether it’s business or a particular goal or money, you can be so focused (and you really do need to be focused!) that you can feel a little bit isolated from the people around you, especially if you live in a small town like I do. You can feel like you don’t have anyone who really understands you. I think that’s why it’s incredibly important to be part of a good community. That can be online, it doesn’t have to be in person, although that’s always good too. Maybe not for the introverts. We don’t care as much!
No one talks about this when they talk about being successful, but sometimes you can definitely feel lonely and isolated if you’re in a different headspace to other people in your life. Make sure you find your community of like-minded people. You can attract them through manifesting, you can join a community like mine and have those ready-made friends who are having the same conversations as you.
3. Conflicting Feelings About Making Passive Income
Let’s look at the third taboo around money. This is the feeling of ickiness when it comes to earning passive income.
Again, not many people talk about this, because if you’ve been to a lot of personal development seminar, passive income is one of those things that everyone says they want but what I find is that when you dig deeper, the difference between what women think they want and what their fears are around it are very different. In fact, they’re often opposing forces.
It’s worth exploring any conflicting feelings around making passive income and it brings up for you. I’ve written about this many times in the past, but usually they’re feelings that run counter-wise to the money belief that “we have to work hard to make money.”
If you’ve got that underlying money belief – you have to work hard to make money – then the idea of making passive income, ie making “easy” money or in ways that are fun and enjoyable for you can feel really weird. It feels like you’re cheating. It feels like you’re not really “earning” it.
You can work through these feelings by catching yourself in the moment and giving yourself mantras like:
“It’s safe for me to make easy money. It’s safe for me to make passive income.”
Allow yourself to feel all the feelings and feel all the fears, and then let yourself clear them.
If you want more help on this, I have a free audio on money blocks that helps you deal with some of these conflicting feelings.
You can get that at www.LuckyBitch.com/Blocks.
Real talk here:
Your money mindset is something you have to work on all the time. It really is. You will never get to a point where money blocks aren’t there (trust me I know). It’s something you have to work on constantly, you have to maintain it and you have to keep your vibration high.
So there you have it – three money taboos that we should all start talking about.
Let me know in the comments if any of those spark off an “aha” for you. Do you need to clear a block and release it to go to the next level in your business and income?
Think about any stories that come to mind, any people that you need to forgive. What do you need to do to let that go so you can give yourself permission to earn more?
Make sure you listen to my money blocks audio to get more insight into what’s holding you back.

It’s your time and you’re ready for the next step.
