  1. Great vid Denise! Yes, I always recommend starting with something small like an e-book. I started making money as a life coach with an e-book and the ones who loved the book become my clients! Right now I have an e-course called The Business Fabulosity Bootcamp and I am releasing The Business Fabulosity Workbook next week!

And YES, those PayPal notifications in the morning or while out shopping that tell me I made money are fricken awesome! Very close to the best feeling in the world!

  2. I’m in the final writing stages of my first product for my new blog – an eBook full of tips for easy content creation for time-pressed people. It’s exciting! I wish I had the moolah for a designer and so on but I can DIY pretty decently in Canva and upgrade it later with a designer if need be.

  3. Hello Denise! Thanks for this post – I already know this but it’s always great to hear it being validated again. What a great story about an eyebrow artist extending her reach with an eBook. That’s exactly the type of strategy more business owners and consultants need to do to make their business scalable and create a passive income stream. I’m in the process of creating my own products right now as I’d like to stop relying so much on 1 to 1 consulting.

  4. Awesome I agree perfect timing 🙂 thanks for the inspiration to make a list of all the possible freebies I can give away! It’s been a bit challenging deciding which one to start with because I want to attract the right people, and yet, I want to create them all so now it’s which one to start with! You rock 🙂

  5. Hey! I’m thankful I stumbled over here – as a graphic designer I’m trying to come up with new content for a launch. I know that I want to write a course of some kind, and launch with a Facebook group and a free challenge, but I’m having the hardest time figuring out WHAT to offer! I love teaching and helping people out especially when art things are concerned, but it’s hard to know what people struggle with and would find valuable to learn in that format.

  6. Loved the video Lucky Bitch!

I’ve been working hard on creating more and more passive income products as my Psychic Life Coaching business has taken off and there’s only so many one on one sessions I can do. My most successful product so far is a Psychic Development E-Course designed to help my clients tune into their intuition more and more in the comfort of their own home, and the feedback I’ve received has been amazing.

Loving the advice also about just teaching something you know and not getting too far ahead of yourself. So true!! 🙂

  7. Fabulous info Denise! I got inspired after your dirty little secrets to passive income video to start my own e-course to teach small business owners how they can market their business without having to do it corporate style. The title is called Selling is NOT Marketing! It’s an e course to get people to realize that selling is not the same thing as marketing. The premise is that every business needs to market itself but you don’t need to have a Masters in Marketing in order to do it. Most business owners are probably already doing something to help market their business but this will help them dive in a little deeper and really start to find their ideal customers. This is something that I’ve been teaching business owners in person for almost 10 years.

So a week ago I started doing a lot of thinking about all the logistics to make it happen. In one weeks time I’ve gotten all of the video scripts and worksheets ready for download for modules 1&2. I have a basic website with a lead capture page and I’m getting ready to start promoting it to small business owners. Thanks for all of the inspiration Denise!!

  8. I am in the process of doing this RIGHT NOW! All I have left to do is put it on my website. I have created a virtual program for becoming a DECISION MAKER in less than 30 days. I have found that many people struggle with making difficult decisions that will alter the path of their life. And I have a program they can use again and again for the rest of their lives (with “big” or “small” decisions.)

I am really good at making decisions and solving problems. For reals.

Now it is time to nail marketing and networking to sell those babies.

  9. Great video thank you! The breakdown was wonderful. I had a book published in 2009 and that was my first “product.” I created a guided meditation that goes with the book as a downloadable item next. I’m about to give B-school a try…and hope to create a complete program packaging a lot of what’s been “sitting” around waiting for my attention. I’m glad I found you and I love your authenticity!

  10. Great video, Denise. I like the idea of writing a list of all the stuff you’ve done in the last 2 years that you could teach someone. I’m going to try to do that today.

I wrote my first ebook-passive income product last year–How to Kick Your Mid-Afternoon Slump to Feel Great and Be More Productive. I actually did a print-on-demand version as well through Create Space.

But I think it’s time to upgrade my offerings, so I’ll be making my list. 🙂

  11. Hi Denise! I’ve read your blog for years but this is the first time I’m commenting. I bet you get a lot of comments that start that way 🙂 I really liked this post, probably because I just wrote and launched my first e-book/ passive income product. It’s called ‘How to be a single woman in your 30s in Lagos’ and I’ve described it as the witty manual for the single 30-something woman (or man) trying to create their own happiness in the beautiful, wild city we call Lagos. The few people who have bought my e-book and others who have read it say they love it. I wish I knew how to get more people to buy it though. Receiving money through PayPal isn’t possible in Nigeria so payment is a bit cumbersome for buyers though I don’t believe that’s the main thing stopping them. I’ve been told to write more books but I’m hesitant – over the next topic and whether it’ll be a success. I’ve asked people what they would like to read next but they don’t seem sure. I guess they’ll know it when they see it 🙂 I would love to read any advice you have for me. Thank you.

    • Hey Lape – congrats on writing a book – that’s amazing!

I would say – keep going. Keep asking your customers what they want next – do they want coaching? Do they want to read more books? Keep writing blogs and see what resonates with them. Keep building your audience. I sold a few books, then a lot more books – and it just got more momentum.

It can take a while to get traction and most people give up before they hit that tipping point. xxDDT
