Today I’m talking all about haters. You’ll hear about…
- The power of a mastermind when dealing with haters
- My top suggestion for what to do if you have a hater
- My first 1 star book review
A lot of women in business tell me that they’re really scared to put themselves out there because they’re terrified of haters.
Yeah it totally does suck when it happens but here’s a little secret, it actually happens much less than you think.
You can be spend so much time worrying about it. Avoiding putting yourself out there, procrastinating writing your blog posts or doing your newsletter, not releasing your first program, and you’re really worrying about a problem that isn’t that big of a deal.
In my first year I probably got maybe two or three haters in the entire year.
One person sent me a tweet that said “SCAM!” That’s all it said… “SCAM!” Another lady posted on my Facebook page and said “What a load of bollocks.” Not even in response to anything – just a post on my page. Thanks lady.
To be honest when that happens, you can’t help but laugh about how dumb these comments are.
You might get something like “That’s stupid, I can’t believe you said that, I completely disagree.” No big deal.
If you blog about a slightly controversial areas like parenting, you are gonna get people who have a very, very different opinions and yes you’ll get people who disagree with you and they want you to know it.
It does help to develop a thick skin.
Here’s what helps when you have haters
Create a really strong mastermind of like-minded entrepreneurs around you.
There’s nothing more fun than screen capping someone’s word vomit of hate or disapproval and sharing with your mastermind group.
You can block out the person’s name if you don’t to publicly shame them to your mastermind buddies and say basically like “Guys this just happened I feel like crap about it, what should I do?”
Or you just kind of go “I just got this nutter.”
Actually sharing it makes you feel better because you realize it’s got nothing to do with you.
It’s all about them. And they are allowed to share their opinion – and you have the right to delete it!
Getting your first hater is a rite of passage.
I will celebrate with you when you get your first hater.
Now I want to share one other hater comment that I got so funny, because we have to laugh about this stuff.
Recently I got my first one star review on my book Get Rich, Lucky Bitch!.
The review said “This is the worst book EVER” and they hated the foul language, but they spelled it F-O-W-L, foul language you know cluck cluck, like a chicken. I felt crap for two seconds and then pissed myself laughing.
I just went “this is brilliant” because it wasn’t that bad. I didn’t die.
I used to think, “Oh my god if I ever get a 1-star review I’m gonna want to commit suicide.”
And trust me you won’t. It’s not going to be that bad. It’s almost a relief because you don’t have to worry about it happening anymore.
And even if you do feel bad about it today, in 24 hours, 48 hours, a weeks’ time you won’t even remember and it’s just going to be part of your armor for the next one.
So trust me getting a hater comment is just a rite of passage and I congratulate you if you’re going through that rite of passage right now!
Have you had your first hater? What did you do? I’d love to hear in the comments below.
